Shadow Puppet Gallery & Theatre
Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur
University Year 3 Academic Project
This project creates a cultural hub centered on Chinese shadow puppetry—a platform for interest, learning, performance, and community gathering. The detailed design focuses on the Theatre Area, which is structured into three experiential zones:
-
Audience Seats & Theatre Area
The heart of the project, this flexible gathering space supports a range of performances and activities, emphasizing shadow, movement, and collective experience.
-
Translucent Panels Area
Featuring LED-lit translucent screens, this zone allows visitors to interact with light and shadow, recreating the visual poetry of puppet movement as human forms pass by.
-
Wooden Bench Sitting Area
A relaxed social space offering alternative sightlines to the theatre, encouraging informal gathering and providing shifting visual perspectives of performances.
